Bruce Shaw Club Manager
Villa scrape through this one: Villa won 0 - 1 away to conisborough with a very lack lustre performance. The side having to be rescued numerous times by Goalie Dick Wrightson. It was said that the side wouldn't have scored if they played all day, and it turned out to be true as the winner was scored in the first half by the hosts. Manager Bruce Shaw commented, its a positive thing when the side is not playing well but still picking up all the points.
Cup run beginning? Villa ran out 4 - 3 winners against 1st division opposition on Saturday, beating the side in extra time. Losing 0- 2 at half time, it looked like Villa were to take an early exit, but they rallied to pull off a great victory and progress to the next round.
Villa hit better form: Villa were run away winners against Yew Tree on saturday. Still struggling to turn out a full squad, Villa went ahead 1 - 0 at half time, but turned the screw to come away 4 - 0 winners. Although Villa aren't playing the best football, they are picking up points regularly and will gain strength as injury and absence subsides.
The win finally comes Taking on top of the division side Sheffield Academicals, Villa were rampant for the first 30 minutes scoring 3 goals courtesy of Greg Henshaw (2) and Shaun Walsh (1) before the vistitors notched to make it 3-1 at the break. Both strikers were in fine form for Villa and it wasn't long before Pete Beighton popped up to win a penalty which was converted by Nathan Griffin. The final score staying at 4 - 1
Villa are becoming Draw Specialists:Villa were held at home to Old Edwardians 2-2 both goals being very spectacular and coming from Russ Hogden and Pete Beighton. Numerous chances were created by both sides but poor finishing was the topic of the day. Good performances came from Tony Noble and Dick Wrightson.
An unfortunate hiccup: Villa were beaten 4- 0 for the first time this season when a very under strength side was turned out. Bruce Shaw has made wholesale changes to bring things back on track noteably the aquisition of Richard Wrightson in goal.
The Lads manage 6 again: You wouldn't have bet on it, but yet another 3 - 3 draw but this time at home. Leading 3 - 2 in the final minutes Villa let it slip to end in stalemate again against Rockingham.
The over 35's side had their first game in the 2nd division of the Wragg League, they ground out a 3-3 draw away to Real Arundel. Villa's goals coming courtesy of Shaun Walsh (2) and Paul Johnson (1).
Bruce has been injury ravaged at the start of the season and is still managing to get points without a qualified Goalkeeper. The squad however is starting to grow and many newcomers are just over 35 so Villa prospects look very good indeed.
